Sand Flats Recreation Area Slickrock Trail
The granddaddy of Moab’s slickrock trails, this 10.5-mile loop cuts across rolling sandstone domes that test traction, line choice, and nerve. The rock surface provides incredible grip when dry but becomes skating-rink slick when wet. Painted white dashes mark the route across seemingly impossible slopes and drop-offs. Expect body damage on stock vehicles – this trail eats running boards and bumpers.
Trail fee required at entrance kiosk. Closes during storms and can stay muddy for days after rain. The practice loop near the trailhead lets you test conditions before committing to the full route. No shade, no water, no cell service once you’re deep in the domes.
