Sand Flats spreads across rolling slickrock terrain just east of Moab, offering dozens of dispersed camping spots among red sandstone formations and juniper trees. Sites range from roadside pulls suitable for any vehicle to more secluded spots requiring high clearance. Most sites have fire rings and spectacular views, but facilities are limited to vault toilets at the main entrance. Expect crowds during spring and fall peak seasons.
Access is via Sand Flats Road from 400 North in Moab — paved for the first mile, then maintained dirt. The famous Slickrock Bike Trail starts here, so mountain bikers are everywhere. Some sites get hammered on weekends. Water and supplies available back in Moab, about 10 minutes away.
