Roosevelt National Forest Guanella Pass Dispersed Sites

Dispersed Camping

Multiple dispersed sites line the upper reaches of Guanella Pass Road above treeline, offering dramatic alpine camping with 360-degree mountain views. Sites range from pull-offs that fit single rigs to larger meadow areas accommodating multiple vehicles. Fire restrictions often in effect due to altitude and dry conditions — check current status. Nights are cold even in summer, and afternoon thunderstorms are common.

Road is paved to the pass but steep and winding — RVs and large trailers not recommended. Sites fill fast on summer weekends with Front Range day-trippers. Snow closes the pass typically November through May. No water, no facilities, pack everything out. Wind can be relentless at this elevation.
