Quartz Mountain State Park Lodge and Cabins
This CCC-built stone lodge sits dramatically on red granite outcroppings overlooking Lake Altus-Lugert in the Quartz Mountains. The main campground has 65 sites with hookups scattered through cedar and oak groves, plus primitive tent areas closer to the water. The lodge restaurant serves decent catfish and steaks, and the small marina rents boats when the lake isn’t bone dry. Popular with bass fishermen and families, but stays relatively quiet outside summer weekends.
The park sits at the intersection of several backcountry routes through the Quartz Mountains. The granite formations make for decent scrambling, and old mining roads web through the hills. Lake levels fluctuate wildly with drought cycles — call ahead to check water conditions if you’re planning to launch a boat. The primitive camping areas can get muddy after rain.
