Basic groceries, ice, propane, and limited auto supplies alongside a cafe serving hearty breakfast and lunch. The fuel pumps are older but functional – cash or card accepted. This is your final resupply point before diving deep into the Chiricahua wilderness or connecting to the AZBDR’s eastern segments.
Portal sits at 4,800 feet in a narrow canyon surrounded by towering peaks. The store keeps reasonable hours but can be closed unexpectedly – call ahead if making a special trip. Popular with birdwatchers heading to Cave Creek Canyon and overlanders tackling the rough backcountry routes through the Chiricahuas.
