Palo Duro Canyon State Park sits at the bottom of the ‘Grand Canyon of Texas,’ offering 50 developed campsites with water and electric hookups alongside primitive tent sites. The canyon walls rise 800 feet around you, painted in brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows that shift throughout the day. Sites fill up on weekends, especially during cooler months when the heat isn’t crushing.
The park road winds down into the canyon via switchbacks — trailers over 40 feet aren’t recommended. Summer temperatures can hit 100°F+ in the canyon bottom, making spring and fall the prime seasons. The famous Lighthouse Trail starts right from the park, and you’re surrounded by 29,000 acres of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails.
