Oodnadatta Track — William Creek Station Creek Flat Dispersed Camp
Pull off the Oodnadatta Track near William Creek and you’re camping on classic South Australian outback: red gibber stone, salt-crusted creek flats, dead-flat horizon in every direction. No facilities, no signage — just pull off on a flat piece of ground clear of the track and stake your claim. This is genuine remote dispersed camping; the kind where you wake up to emu tracks around your rig and not another soul in sight. William Creek township is a few kilometres away with fuel, cold beer, and surprisingly good pub meals at the William Creek Hotel — don’t blow past it.
Access is straightforward on the Oodnadatta Track itself, which is a maintained dirt road suitable for most high-clearance 2WDs in dry conditions. After rain it can cut up badly — check with the SA Transport Department before heading out. No water source at camp; carry everything you need. No formal stay limit but leave-no-trace is the rule out here.
Gibber plains camp near the Outback's loneliest pub.
