Nebraska National Forest Bessey Ranger District Pine Ridge Dispersed Sites
This unusual dispersed area sits within the hand-planted pine forest of the Bessey District, about 40 miles north of North Platte. Eight to ten informal sites are scattered along Forest Road 904, with most accommodating trailers up to 25 feet. The setting is surreal — dense pine groves rising from rolling grassland like something transported from Colorado. Fire rings present but fire restrictions common during dry periods.
Access is via maintained gravel roads passable by any vehicle. The area sees steady use from hunters in fall and local campers in summer, but rarely fills completely. No services for 20+ miles in any direction, so come prepared. Water must be hauled from Halsey or Thedford. The contrast between pine forest and surrounding prairie makes this one of the most distinctive camping spots on the Plains.
