Naikoon Provincial Park — East Beach Coastal Dispersed Camp

East Beach stretches for miles along the northeastern edge of Haida Gwaii, running from the Tlell River mouth toward Tow Hill and beyond. This is genuine remote dispersed camping — no facilities, no signage, no fee box. You’re pulling off onto firm sand or backing into the forest edge where the beach meets the tree line. The vibe is primal: ravens, bald eagles, storm-bleached driftwood, and the constant Pacific wind. Occasional bear traffic — food storage discipline is non-negotiable here.

Access is via the unpaved East Beach Road or directly from the Tow Hill Road corridor managed under Naikoon Provincial Park. Soft sand sections near the beach face can swallow a rig without proper tire pressure management — air down before you hit the sand. The road is passable to high-clearance vehicles; 4WD recommended when wet, which in Haida Gwaii means most of the year. Best season May through September. No water source on-site — carry everything in.
