The West Peak Fire Lookout on Mount Tamalpais offers some of the most spectacular and accessible views in Northern California. From this 2,571-foot summit, you’ll see the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco skyline, Marin County coastline, and on clear days, the Sierra Nevada mountains. The modern lookout building replaces the original 1930s structure and is occasionally staffed during fire season.
Easily reached via paved West Ridgecrest Boulevard, making it perfect for any vehicle. The site gets crowded on weekends with Bay Area day-trippers, so early morning or weekday visits offer more solitude. Parking is limited at the summit — overflow lots are available down the mountain. No camping at the lookout, but nearby Mount Tamalpais State Park offers developed campsites.
