Monongahela National Forest — Seneca Creek Road Upper Valley Dispersed Camp

Pull off into the hardwood and spruce mix along FR 112 (Seneca Creek Road) in the upper Seneca Creek drainage and you’ve got classic Monongahela dispersed camping: no fee, no sign, no hassle. Sites are flat and tucked among second-growth forest with the creek audible depending on where you park. Expect soggy conditions after rain — this is one of the wettest corners of West Virginia, and the creek rises fast in spring. No developed facilities; pack everything in and out. Fire restrictions apply during dry periods — check with Potomac Ranger District before you go.

Access is off WV-28/11 south of Seneca Rocks, turning west on FR 112. High-clearance recommended on the upper sections especially in mud season. Cell service is essentially zero up here. The Spruce Knob–Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area flanks this drainage, so it’s a natural mid-route camp for TAT runners threading the Allegheny highlands. Season runs May through October — mud and snow close upper sections in winter and early spring.
