Moffat Tunnel Winter Park Trailhead
This trailhead sits on the Winter Park side of the Moffat Tunnel, offering access to the old Moffat Road grade and a network of forest service roads that lead to spectacular Continental Divide camping. The original railroad grade makes for easy walking or mountain biking, while 4WD spurs climb toward timberline camping spots with expansive views. Small parking area with vault toilet but no water—bring everything you need.
From here you can connect to the East Portal Road network or explore the high basins toward James Peak. Road conditions vary dramatically with season—what’s passable in September can be snow-covered through June. Check with Sulphur Ranger District for current conditions and fire restrictions.
