Meteor Crater Natural Landmark
This massive crater stretches nearly a mile across and drops 560 feet deep, created when a nickel-iron meteorite slammed into the Arizona high desert. The rim trail offers multiple viewpoints of the perfectly preserved impact site, with the visitor center housing meteorite fragments and impact science exhibits. Entry fee required, but the scale and preservation make it worth the stop.
Located on a well-maintained access road off I-40, the site stays busy during peak tourist seasons but quieter in winter months. The rim is exposed to desert winds, so bring layers. No camping on-site, but several RV parks and dispersed areas nearby for overnight stays.
