Massacre Rocks State Park Campground — Snake River Corridor
Massacre Rocks sits right on the Snake River, named for a series of emigrant wagon train attacks along the Oregon Trail in 1862. The campground offers a mix of hookup sites and primitive tent spots tucked into basalt rimrock terrain. Cottonwoods provide some shade, the river is right there, and it’s one of the better-developed stops in this stretch of southern Idaho. You’ve got flush toilets, showers, and drinking water — all the things you want before heading out to the lava fields. It books up on summer weekends but stays manageable in shoulder season.
Access is paved directly off I-86 at Exit 28. Open year-round but best April through October. Cell signal is reasonable here. Reserve ahead on summer weekends via Idaho Parks online portal — walk-ins fill fast on Friday nights.
