Mammoth Lakes Dispersed Camping Shady Rest Area
Network of established dispersed sites scattered through lodgepole pine and fir forest at 8,000 feet elevation. Sites are well-spaced with existing fire rings and level parking areas suitable for larger rigs. Popular with climbers, hikers, and overlanders using Mammoth as a resupply point for Sierra adventures. Can get busy during summer weekends but capacity is substantial with sites spread over several forest roads.
Access via Forest Service roads off Sawmill Cutoff Road, just west of Mammoth Lakes. Roads are gravel and well-maintained, suitable for any vehicle during snow-free months. Snow typically blocks access November through May. Elevation means cool nights even in summer — pack warm gear.
