Llyn Ogwen — Snowdonia Lakehead and Tryfan Viewpoint

Point of Interest

Llyn Ogwen sits at around 1,000 feet in the Ogwen Valley, flanked by the jagged east face of Tryfan on one side and the Glyderau massif on the other. The A5 runs right along the lakeshore, making this accessible to any vehicle, but don’t let that fool you — the terrain above is serious mountain country. The Ogwen Cottage outdoor centre sits at the western end and serves as a popular staging point for climbers and hikers tackling Tryfan, Y Garn, and the Glyderau. The lake itself reflects the ridgelines on calm days in a way that makes you stop the rig and just stare.

Parking at the western end of the lake fills early on weekends and school holidays — arrive before 8am or expect a queue. There’s a small waterfall and basic facilities at Ogwen Cottage. Snowdonia National Park enforces no overnight camping in the valley floor layby areas. A solid base for exploring the Ogwen Valley road network.

Tryfan's east face mirrored in a glacial lake.
