Koocanusa Lake — Kikomun Creek Provincial Park Campground
Kikomun Creek Provincial Park sits on the western shore of Lake Koocanusa, the massive reservoir formed by Libby Dam straddling the BC-Montana border. The campground runs around 100 sites spread across several loops — some with partial lake views, most shaded by Douglas fir and ponderosa pine. Water temps here get genuinely warm by late July, which is rare in BC. It’s a full-service provincial park with flush toilets, showers, and a boat launch, so it draws families, but the setting earns it — big water, open sky, and the Rockies as your backdrop.
Access is paved right to the park gate off Highway 93 south of Elko. This is the natural overnight stop when running the Elk Valley backcountry routes or the Flathead FSR network out of Sparwood. Reserve well ahead for July-August. Off-season the gate closes but the area stays accessible on foot from the highway.
