Esso Sparwood — Highway 3 Elk Valley Fuel Stop

Fuel Station

Sparwood sits at the mouth of the Elk Valley and is the logical fuel-and-groceries stop before you head north toward Elk Pass FSR, Windy Pass, or across the provincial border into Kananaskis. The Esso on Highway 3 is a no-drama fuel stop with regular and diesel, a basic convenience store, and enough cell signal to send your trip plan before disappearing into the hills. The town also has a grocery store and the famous Titan truck display — world’s largest mining truck — if you’ve got five minutes to kill.

Sparwood is small but functional. Don’t expect a full outfitter or specialty off-road parts — this is a fuel-and-go situation. If you’re heading up Potato Creek FSR or Elk Pass FSR, top off here. The next fuel heading north is much farther. Diesel is reliably available. Hours can vary seasonally — verify ahead in shoulder season.

Top off before the Elk Valley backcountry.
