Innamincka Town Common Campground
Innamincka Town Common is the legendary finish line for the Strzelecki Track. Managed by the SA DEW and sitting right on the edge of the Innamincka Regional Reserve, this campground sprawls along the Cooper Creek floodplain — shady coolibah trees, sandy ground, and the most welcome sight of services after days of outback corrugations. The Innamincka Trading Post has fuel, food, and supplies. Sites are basic but you’re not here for glamping — you’re here for that moment when you crack a beer and stare at the waterhole where Burke and Wills came to grief.
The campground fills fast during the May-September peak season — weekend crowds of South Australian and Queensland overlanders are common. Vehicle access is straightforward once you’re in town. No hookups, no showers, but pit toilets and a reliable water supply are on site. A national park camping permit is required and can be purchased via the SA National Parks booking system.
End of the Strzelecki — cold beer and Cooper Creek.
