This legendary windsurfing spot doubles as an unofficial overnight stop for overlanders running the Hana Highway. The beach park has restrooms and showers, plus a large grassy area where vans and rigs park for the night alongside hardcore windsurfers. Dawn brings world-class wind and waves — it’s a proper spectacle even if you’re not into watersports. Gets crowded with day-use crowds by 10am.
Access is right off Highway 36 with no permits required, though it’s technically day-use only. Rangers rarely enforce overnight restrictions on self-contained rigs. Park on the grass away from the beach to avoid sand and salt spray. No potable water on-site, but Paia town is 2 miles east for resupply.
