Hocking River Moonville Rail-Trail Trailhead
Small gravel parking area marks the eastern terminus of the Moonville Rail-Trail, which follows the old Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad grade through Zaleski State Forest. The trail leads 3.2 miles west to the iconic Moonville Tunnel, a spooky brick arch that’s all that remains of the ghost town of Moonville. Multiple spur trails branch off to connect with the forest’s extensive horse trail system and dispersed camping areas.
Parking fits about 6 vehicles on a wide spot along Lunar Ridge Road. The rail-trail itself is easy walking on ballast and ties, but side trails can get technical for vehicles. Best accessed via Zaleski from the west – Lunar Ridge Road gets rough in wet weather and requires high-clearance for the last mile.
