Hartman Creek State Park Primitive Campground
Hartman Creek’s primitive campground sits in a separate area from the main family campground, offering 16 walk-in sites scattered through mixed hardwood forest. Sites have fire rings and picnic tables but no water or electric — you haul your gear about 50 yards from the parking area. It’s the anti-KOA: quiet, dark, and connected to serious trail systems including segments of the Ice Age Trail.
Reserve ahead for summer weekends — primitive doesn’t mean unpopular. The campground sits near the park’s mountain bike trail system and connects to the Chain O’ Lakes area. Water and restrooms are at the nearby family campground. Open year-round but no winter services.
