Great Western Woodlands Breakaway Country Dispersed Area
Hidden among the salmon gums and wandoo trees, this dispersed area offers primitive camping beneath dramatic breakaway formations and massive granite tors. Sites are scattered along old mining tracks with natural windbreaks and seasonal water holes nearby. The woodland stretches endlessly in all directions — one of the last great temperate forests on earth.
Access requires high-clearance 4WD on rough mining tracks that can be boggy after rain. No facilities whatsoever — pack everything in, pack everything out. Best avoided during fire season (November-March). Navigation challenging without GPS as tracks are unmarked and intersect frequently.
