Glen Affric — Cannich Road End Trailhead and Wild Camp Staging
The road end car park at Dog Falls and the Loch Affric car park beyond Cannich are the launch pads into Glen Affric — consistently ranked among Scotland’s finest glens. Ancient Caledonian Scots pine, open loch shores, and a real sense of wilderness right off the tarmac. The Loch Affric circuit is a classic 12-mile loop accessible from here, and the glen punches through to Kintail for multi-day bothying. Wild camping is legal under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2003 — treat it right.
The single-track road from Cannich to the loch end is narrow, well-surfaced, and passable by any vehicle, though it gets busy with day walkers on weekends. No hookups, no showers — a basic car park with a toilet block at Dog Falls. Mobile signal drops out well before the road end. Go mid-week in June or September to avoid the worst midges and crowds.
Ancient pines, wild lochs, real Scotland.
