Giljanes — Vágar Island North Coast Wild Camp
Giljanes is a known dispersed camping area on Vágar’s north coast, used by hikers and overlanders working the island circuit. You’re on open grazing land above Atlantic cliffs with views toward Tindhólmur and Gásadalur on clear days. No facilities — pack everything in, pack everything out. Fire restrictions apply across the Faroes; gas stoves only as standard practice. Capacity is self-limiting by terrain; expect no more than a handful of parties sharing the area at peak season.
Access is via rough dirt track heading north off the main Vágar road — high-clearance recommended after rain when the track softens. The Faroes have no formal dispersed camping system; respect landowner access and leave no trace. Sørvágur (5 km south) is your nearest fuel and grocery. This area sees significantly less traffic than Sørvágsvatn viewpoint despite sharing the same island.
