Gang Ranch — Alkali Lake Road Junction Viewpoint
Gang Ranch sits in the heart of BC’s Cariboo-Chilcotin plateau and is one of the largest working ranches in North America. The road junction near the ranch itself, on the Alkali Lake Road running south from Dog Creek toward the Fraser River crossing, opens up a vast panorama of open rangeland, dark timber edges, and the dramatic topography dropping toward the Fraser. This is not a developed viewpoint — there’s no kiosk, no parking lot, just a wide spot where the road crests and the whole plateau lays itself out. Pull over, kill the engine, and take it in.
This stretch is relevant for anyone running the Potato Range FSR or Marble Range routes out of Clinton, or heading into the Chilcotin via the Gang Ranch Road documented in the existing database. Road is maintained dirt, passable in dry conditions with any high-clearance vehicle. Expect cattle on the road — they own it, you’re a guest. No services for roughly 80 km in any direction.
Biggest ranch in BC. Smallest crowd you'll ever see.
