Furnace Creek Visitor Center and Museum
The nerve center of Death Valley National Park sits at 190 feet below sea level, housing exhibits on desert survival, mining history, and natural phenomena. Clean restrooms, detailed trail maps, and knowledgeable rangers make this a mandatory stop before venturing deeper into the backcountry. The building stays cool even in summer’s brutal heat, and the water fountains outside are a lifeline for refilling every container you’ve got.
Open year-round with extended hours in winter tourist season. The museum side showcases Borax mining equipment and indigenous Timbisha Shoshone culture. Cell service works sporadically in the parking area. This is your last reliable resupply point before heading into the park’s remote zones.
