Farewell Bend State Recreation Area — Snake River Campground

Established Campground

Farewell Bend sits on the west bank of the Snake River at the old Oregon Trail ford, right on US-30 between Huntington and Ontario. For overlanders coming off the Hells Canyon Reservoir Road or heading toward the Owyhee Canyonlands, this is a genuine infrastructure stop — showers, flush toilets, electrical hookups, and drinkable water in a region where those things are rare. The campground has both full-hookup RV sites and tent sites, and it’s shaded by cottonwoods along the river. It fills up on summer weekends but is reliably open and staffed.

The Oregon Trail history here is real — interpretive signs, wagon ruts visible on the hillside, and a sense of how brutal the crossing was. Cell signal is spotty but better than anything you’ll get in the canyons. Reservations strongly recommended May through September. This is the kind of place you hit when you need a hot shower and a flat site before or after a hard run in Hells Canyon or Owyhee country.

Snake River showers and hookups — earn them in Hells Canyon.
