Fairy Meadow Campground Nanga Parbat Base Camp
Fairy Meadow sits at 10,800 feet elevation beneath the massive north face of Nanga Parbat, the world’s ninth-highest peak. This established campground serves mountaineering expeditions and trekkers with basic facilities including stone-walled tent platforms, a simple lodge building, and pit toilets. The setting is spectacular but harsh — nights drop well below freezing even in summer, and weather changes rapidly. Capacity runs about 50 tents across terraced platforms carved into the alpine meadow.
Access requires a bone-jarring 4WD track from Raikot Bridge followed by a mandatory 3-hour trek — no vehicles reach the campground itself. The jeep track to Tato village (the trailhead) is rough and narrow, demanding high-clearance 4WD and steady nerves. Open roughly June through September when snow clears. Bring all food and fuel; the lodge sells basic supplies at premium prices.
