Karakoram Highway — Passu Cones Valley Floor Dispersed Camp

Pull off the KKH just north of Passu village and you’ll find rough but flat gravel benches along the Hunza River with an unobstructed view of the Passu Cathedral and Tupopdan spires towering above you. No facilities, no signage, no fee — just you, the river roar, and those impossible peaks. Best suited to expedition vehicles or overlanders running rooftops or ground tents on flat ground. Nights get cold even in summer at this elevation. Fires are not recommended — wood is scarce and culturally sensitive here.

Access is directly off the KKH (N-35 highway) with no technical driving required — any 4WD or high-clearance vehicle handles it fine. Season runs roughly May through October; the pass above closes in winter. Cell signal is spotty at best — bring a satellite communicator. Confirm with locals in Passu village before committing to a specific pull-off as the riverbank shifts seasonally.
