Emigrant Springs State Heritage Area
This developed campground sits around a natural spring that provided crucial water to Oregon Trail emigrants in the 1800s. The spring still flows year-round, feeding into a small pond surrounded by tall ponderosa pines. Twenty-four sites offer tables, fire rings, and pit toilets, with several sites large enough for bigger rigs. The spring water is potable but tastes heavily of minerals.
Located on US-84 in the Blue Mountains at 4,000 feet elevation. The campground typically opens Memorial Day through October, depending on snow. Sites are first-come, first-served. Cell service is spotty but the spring makes it a reliable water source for those heading into the remote sections of eastern Oregon.
