Draa Valley Palmerie — Tamegroute Road Riverside Dispersed Camp
Between Zagora and Tamegroute, the Draa River corridor opens up into broad, sandy flats flanked by date palm groves and crumbling earthen ksour. Overlanders have been pulling off the piste here for decades — flat ground, natural windbreaks from the palms, and the low murmur of the river if it’s running. No facilities, no signs, no shade structures — just desert bivouac in the classic Moroccan sense. Expect other overlanders and the occasional local shepherd passing through.
Access is via the sealed N9 turning onto dirt tracks toward the river — any high-clearance vehicle handles it fine in dry conditions. In winter and early spring the Draa can actually flow, raising the charm considerably. Summer heat is brutal — October through March is the window. Confirm with locals in Zagora or Tamegroute that your chosen pull-off isn’t adjacent to cultivated land before you set camp.
