Donnelly Creek State Recreation Site

Scenic creek-side campground on the Richardson Highway with mountain views and excellent fishing access.

This state recreation site sits alongside Donnelly Creek at mile 238 of the Richardson Highway, offering 12 sites nestled among spruce trees with the Alaska Range as a backdrop. The creek runs cold and clear, holding grayling and trout that draw both locals and highway travelers. Sites are well-spaced with picnic tables and fire rings, though the place fills up during salmon runs and hunting season.

Open seasonally from late May through September, with water and vault toilets available. The access road is paved but short, making it an easy stop for any rig. Cell service is spotty to none, and campfires are generally allowed unless fire restrictions are posted.
