Dolly Sods Wilderness Red Creek Campground

Established Campground

Red Creek sits at 3,800 feet in the Dolly Sods plateau country, surrounded by windswept heath barrens and spruce forests that feel more like Canada than Appalachia. Eight primitive sites scattered along Red Creek with pit toilets, fire rings, and bear boxes. No water source on-site — pack what you need or filter from the creek. This is true backcountry camping with weather that changes fast.

Access via Forest Road 75 from Laneville — rough gravel for the last 8 miles but manageable in any high-clearance vehicle. Open year-round but brutal in winter. Sites are first-come first-served. Popular with hikers tackling the Dolly Sods circuit trails.
