Kalahari Roadside Bush Camp — D’Kar to Ghanzi Corridor

The A3 corridor between D’Kar and Ghanzi runs straight through the heart of the Kalahari sandveld — flat, reddish, thick with camel thorn acacia and shepherd’s tree. This is communal land and private farmland fringe country, but overlanders running the Trans-Kalahari routinely pull off the road into the bush in this stretch for a night. Pick a clearing set well back from the road, well away from any homestead or farm fence. No facilities whatsoever — this is pure self-contained bush camping. Ground is firm sandy loam most of the year, so vehicle recovery risk is low if you don’t chase a campsite too deep into the scrub.

Best approached with a full fuel and water load out of Ghanzi or Maun. Nights get genuinely cold June–August. Fire bans may apply during dry season fire risk periods — check locally. Cell signal on the A3 is intermittent at best. This isn’t a named site — it’s a mindset. Pick a spot, kill the lights, and let the Kalahari do its thing.
