Dezadeash River Bridge — Haines Junction Kluane Foothills Crossing Viewpoint

Point of Interest

The Dezadeash River drains out of the Kluane Foothills and into Dezadeash Lake before eventually feeding the Alsek River system — one of the wildest drainages in North America. The bridge crossing on the Dezadeash Lake Road gives you a solid pullout above the river with clear sightlines up toward the St. Elias Mountains. In late summer the water runs clear over a gravel bed; in spring runoff it’s glacier-grey and fast. Dall sheep country starts not far above you on the slopes.

This is a natural staging point if you’re heading into the Dezadeash Lake to Bates Lake backcountry or the Champagne to Hutshi Lakes mining circuit. Road surface is maintained gravel from Haines Junction — high-clearance 2WD handles it fine in dry conditions. No facilities at the bridge. Kluane National Park boundary is close; check with Parks Canada for any current access advisories before heading deeper into the foothills.

Glacial river, St. Elias backdrop, no crowds.
