Scattered sites along washboard dirt roads provide solitude beneath the rugged Coyote Mountains, about 50 miles southwest of Tucson. The area offers classic Sonoran Desert camping with saguaros, ocotillo, and volcanic ridgelines as backdrop. Sites are primitive with zero amenities — pack water, fuel, and supplies. Popular with winter visitors escaping cold climates, but largely empty spring through fall.
Access via Ajo Way to Sandario Road, then follow rough dirt tracks into the mountains. High-clearance recommended for better site selection, though some spots work for 2WD. Cell service nonexistent. Nearest supplies in Ajo, 30 miles south.
