Carrizo Badlands Overlook

Dramatic viewpoint over the twisted canyons and fossil-rich badlands of Anza-Borrego's eastern wilderness.

This natural overlook provides sweeping views across the Carrizo Badlands, a maze of eroded canyons, fossil beds, and wind-carved formations that stretch toward the Salton Sea. The overlook sits on a small mesa accessible by a rough dirt spur road, offering 360-degree views of some of California’s most dramatic desert terrain. No facilities, but plenty of space for photos and route planning.

Access via Carrizo Badlands Loop trail system, about 3 miles from the main loop road on a rocky two-track. High-clearance recommended for the spur, though the main loop is accessible to most vehicles. Best light for photos is early morning or late afternoon. Completely exposed to wind and sun.
