BLM Pilot Knob Dispersed Area
Ring of informal sites around the base of Pilot Knob, an ancient volcanic plug rising from the Sonoran Desert floor. Maybe 15-20 spots spread across washes and flats, most with fire rings built from desert stones. Views stretch across agricultural fields to the Salton Sea and into Mexico. Gets busy with snowbirds January through March, dead empty in summer heat.
Access roads are sand and can be soft after rain — 4WD helpful but not required if you pick your line. No shade, no water, no facilities. Temps can hit 120°F in summer. Popular with rockhounds hunting agates and geodes in the surrounding washes.
