Camping Tupiza — Bolivian Southwest Circuit Southern Basecamp

Tupiza is where you sort your kit, fuel up, and spend the last night at a real campground before the Lagunas Route swallows you whole. The most well-documented established camp option here is through the hostels and small guesthouses — particularly El Refugio de los Sueños and similar places on the southern edge of town — that offer tent and vehicle camping in walled courtyards or basic grounds. Expect basic toilets, cold showers on a good day, and a bed of security before the brutal tracks ahead. Town is walkable: last fuel, last ATM, last empanada.

Access is fully paved into Tupiza via Ruta 1 from Villazón or north from Potosí. This is the real last resupply before the altiplano — fill every jerry can, every water container. Season runs roughly April through October; the wet season turns the lower canyon tracks to soup. Cell signal exists in town proper, gone within 30km heading northwest.
