Camping San Francisco de Yuruaní — Gran Sabana Highway Stopover

San Francisco de Yuruaní sits on the Troncal 10 (the main Gran Sabana highway) and is the practical last-chance stop before you turn off toward Paraitepui and Roraima. The Pemón community here has long hosted travellers — there’s a basic guesthouse camp with flat pitching ground, pit toilets, and sometimes cold showers depending on the season. It’s humble but honest. You’ll often find other overlanders here comparing notes and hiring local Pemón guides, which is mandatory for the national park entry anyway.

Fuel availability is intermittent — Jerry cans are your friend in this region. Stock up in Santa Elena de Uairén before heading north into the sabana. The camp sits at roughly 900 m elevation on the open grassland plateau; nights are cooler than the lowlands and winds can pick up. Dry season (November–April) is the window when the Paraitepui track is reliably passable.
