Camping Cueva de las Manos — Parque Nacional Patagonia

This is the base camp for visiting Cueva de las Manos, a UNESCO World Heritage site with hand stencils dating back 9,000 years. The campground is administered by Parque Nacional Patagonia and sits on the canyon rim above the Río Pinturas gorge — wind-hammered, exposed, and utterly wild. Capacity is small; expect a handful of sites with basic facilities. The canyon views alone justify the drive. Patagonian wind is relentless here — stake everything and weigh down your kitchen.

Access is via a signed dirt track off Ruta Provincial 43, roughly 100 km south of Perito Moreno. The road is gravel and corrugated but manageable in a high-clearance 2WD when dry. Season runs October through April — winter closes things down hard. Confirm current fees and site availability at the park entrance or with the Perito Moreno APN office before committing; infrastructure is minimal and staffing can be thin outside peak summer.
