Ruta Provincial 43 — Meseta del Lago Buenos Aires Plateau Dispersed Camp

Pull off the gravel of RP-43 anywhere on the flat meseta where the terrain opens up east of Los Antiguos and you’ve got honest dispersed camping — exposed, raw, and completely free. The plateau sits above Lago Buenos Aires, and on a clear day the Andes wall on the Chilean border fills the western horizon. Wind is the defining variable here; bring serious stakes and low-profile shelter. No facilities, no signage, no rangers. Bring everything you need including water — the nearest reliable source is in Perito Moreno or Los Antiguos.

The road surface is compacted gravel and dirt — passable for high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions, but sections turn slick clay after rain. Spring and summer (Oct–Mar) are the practical window; winter brings brutal wind and occasional snow. Cell signal drops to nothing for long stretches. This is Patagonia at its most unfiltered — plan accordingly.
