BLM Sand Flats Recreation Area Dispersed Sites
Sand Flats sits on weathered slickrock benches east of Moab, offering dozens of dispersed sites scattered across the redrock landscape. The area accommodates everything from single rigs to large groups, with sites ranging from roadside pullouts to more secluded spots requiring short walks. Most sites have natural wind breaks from sandstone formations, and the views stretch across the Colorado River valley to the snow-capped La Sals. Fire restrictions often in effect during dry months.
Access via Sand Flats Road (4WD recommended but not required for most sites). The area gets crowded during Jeep Safari and peak fall season. No facilities beyond vault toilets near the fee station. Sites fill early during events, but there’s usually something available if you’re flexible.
