Bear Glacier Provincial Park — Salmon Glacier Viewpoint
On the drive up the Glacier Highway (BC-37A) between Meziadin Junction and Stewart, Bear Glacier comes down to the road so close you can nearly touch it. The turquoise meltwater lake at its terminus is electric — the color doesn’t look real. This is a legit pull-off POI, not a hike-in payoff, which makes it accessible to every overlander on the Stewart-Granduc corridor regardless of rig or fitness level. Most people stop here on the way to or from the Granduc Mine road, and it’s worth every minute of the detour.
The viewpoint is right off the highway with a gravel pull-out. No facilities. The glacier is receding year over year — the lake has grown noticeably over the past decade. Best light for photos is morning. The road is paved all the way from Meziadin — no 4WD needed to reach this specific stop.
Glacier drops to the road. Eyes will widen.
