Banff National Park Tunnel Mountain Campground
Three separate loops totaling over 1200 sites spread across the south-facing slopes of Tunnel Mountain. Village Loop caters to RVs with full hookups, while Tunnel Mountain loops offer more traditional tent camping with fire pits and basic facilities. The views across the Bow Valley to the Fairholme Range are spectacular, especially at sunrise. Elk wander through regularly, and you’re a 10-minute walk from downtown Banff’s restaurants and outfitters.
This is car camping, not wilderness — sites are close together and the place buzzes with activity all summer. Reservations are absolutely essential from June through September, often booking months ahead. The campground stays open year-round, though only the Village Loop operates in winter. Firewood is available for purchase, but gathering is prohibited throughout the park. Bears frequent the area, so all food storage rules are strictly enforced.
