Blaeberry Community Forest Road — Columbia River Wetlands Overlook
About 12 km up the Blaeberry River FSR out of Golden, the road climbs enough to give you a north-facing view back over the Columbia River Wetlands — a UNESCO-recognized floodplain and one of the largest intact inland wetland systems in North America. No formal overlook, no signage, just a wide spot where rigs have pulled over for generations. The wetlands below are ungulate country: moose, elk, and waterfowl in numbers that’ll make you stop mid-bite. Dawn and dusk are the times to be here.
The Blaeberry FSR itself is a maintained gravel logging road, generally accessible to high-clearance 2WD in dry conditions, but it deteriorates quickly above the community forest boundary heading toward Howse Pass. Cell signal disappears within a few kilometers of Golden. No amenities at the pull-off — this is a windshield moment, not a campsite.
Wetlands sprawl, mountains behind, zero crowds.
