Bald Eagle State Forest Sand Spring Road Dispersed Area
A series of established dispersed sites along Sand Spring Road in the heart of Bald Eagle State Forest, offering secluded camping among second-growth hardwoods and mountain laurel. Half a dozen pull-offs provide space for 2-3 rigs each, most with fire rings and evidence of regular use. The area stays quiet except during rifle season when it becomes a hunter staging area.
Access via Sand Spring Road off Route 144 near Moshannon — the first 2 miles are gravel, then transitions to maintained dirt. No facilities but decent cell coverage on higher ridges. Fire restrictions typically apply May through October.
