Augusta — Manix Fuel and Sun River Valley Gateway Resupply

Point of Interest

Augusta, Montana is a blink-and-miss-it town of around 300 people that punches way above its weight as a wilderness gateway. The Manix Station on Main Street is your last confirmed fuel stop before Benchmark Road swallows you whole. There’s a small grocery, a bar, and the kind of locals who have actually been into the Bob and will tell you what the roads look like. The Augusta American Legion Rodeo in late June turns this town into standing room only — plan around it if you’re not into crowds.

Sitting right at the base of the Rocky Mountain Front on US-287, Augusta is roughly 30 miles from the Benchmark Campground and the South Fork Sun River trailheads. Cell service is limited but better here than anywhere past it. Lewis and Clark National Forest ranger station contacts and printed maps are worth grabbing here before heading in.

Last fuel before the Bob eats you.
