Algonquin Provincial Park Achray Campground
Achray sits at the far eastern entrance of Algonquin Provincial Park, offering 39 sites scattered along Grand Lake and the Barron River. Unlike the busy Canisbay or Mew Lake compounds, Achray feels genuinely remote — most sites are tucked into the forest with water access, and you’ll hear loons more than generators. The compound serves as a jumping-off point for the Barron Canyon Trail and eastern canoe routes.
Access is via Highway 17 then Forest Access Road, about 23 kilometers of decent gravel from the pavement. The road can get washboarded but handles any vehicle. Open May through October, with peak demand in July-August. Reserve ahead for summer weekends — this place books up despite its remote feel.
